Johnstone Hall Core Campus Demolition
January 2024 - May 2025

Having served the University for generations, both Johnstone Hall A and shop areas related to University Facilities are now slated to be demolished. Once structural debris is removed, the remaining grounds will be converted to green spaces with potential for future development.

These demolitions will impact students, faculty, and staff that live and work in the surrounding areas. Information will be shared on a regular basis to mitigate the affect of construction work to those passing by each job site.

Specific buildings to be demolished in the Facilities area include several carports, the Carpenter Shop and neighboring buildings, the Paint, Welding, and Locksmith Shops, Maintenance Stores, the Motor Pool Building and its associated shed.

Several improvements will be made post demolition, including multi-functional greenspaces across both sites. These greenspaces will facilitate the placement of tents and booths with electrical hookups for student events. The areas will also be usable for parking related to high-capacity events.

Highlights

  • Demolition will involve care and communication.
  • Areas will be converted into multi-functional green spaces.
  • Removal of end-of-life campus buildings makes way for future development.
