Environmental Benefits

There is a direct correlation between carbon emissions and negative environmental consequences. The largest contributor to carbon emissions is undoubtedly energy production and consumption.

In addition to energy savings and equipment upgrades, another important aspect of this project is the significant environmental benefit. Through the implementation of this Energy Savings Performance Contracting Project, the University will reduce its ANNUAL energy and utility consumption by approximately:

  • 18,281,983 kWh of electricity
  • 29,966,280 kBTU of natural gas
  • 8,624,034 gallons of water

This is equivalent to one of the following benefits:

  • Powering 1,700 homes annually
  • Planting over 7,517 acres of forest
  • Removal of emissions equivalent to approximately 19,000 metric tons of CO2 annually
  • Removal of emissions equivalent to 46,684,089 miles driven by an average gasoline-powered vehicle
  • Reducing the usage of Coal by 20,792,749 pounds (~10,396 tons)
