Utility Services works hard to ensure that Clemson University's water quality meets or exceeds regulatory standards. We regularly test the water distribution system and perform upgrades to guarantee clean water throughout campus.

Call Before You Dig
There are times where maintenance is required, and we urge groups within University Facilities as well as outside contractors to "Call Before You Dig," to avoid unnecessary disruptions in water service or impact to water quality. If a water line is struck and damaged, dirt and contaminants enter the water system and cost time and money to repair.
Prior to performing any excavation or driving stakes, poles or anything into the ground, you should notify SC811 of your planned excavation to prevent damage to below ground utilities.
Steps for Safe Digging
- Request a locate. Visit SC811.com or call 811 to request for utilities to be located and marked at the location of your planned workspace.
- Wait the required amount of time indicated by SC811 to allow time for the utilities to be located in the field. This is typically 3 full business days.
- After the required wait time, call SC811 to confirm all utilities at your work site have been located and marked.
- Keep marks intact as best you can. Care should be taken to pothole marked utility locations until the utility is found. If the markings are destroyed by construction or weather, contact SC811 to have utilities re-marked if necessary.
- Dig carefully around buried utilities. If a utility is damaged during excavation, have the project manager contact the Facilities Support Center at (864) 656-5450.
