Composting

Bring Clemson to Your Garden

Clemson Compost is a multipurpose compost made right from the organic waste of Clemson's campus. Food waste from dining halls, sports arenas, academic buildings, and student housing is diverted to our composting facility, Cherry Crossing Research Center. Organic material is then broken down by native bacteria and fungi through controlled aerobic decomposition. This helps reduce the need for pesticides and fertilizers and replenishes ingredients and improves soil health. Compost is perfect for use in your garden, lawn, planters, or landscaping as potting soil, mulch, fertilizer, or topsoil. The possibilities are endless.

Certified SC Grown

Through Certified SC Grown, we proudly provide compost made right here in the Palmetto State—helping to enrich South Carolina soils and support sustainable growth. Being part of this program allows us to contribute to a stronger local economy, promote environmental stewardship, and celebrate the quality and authenticity of South Carolina-grown products. When you choose Certified SC, you're not just buying local—you're helping communities thrive from the ground up.

Portrait of Jeff Hopkins

"At the Musser Fruit Research Center, we have a mutually beneficial relationship with Clemson Compost. We use their compost for many different purposes all year round: for research trials, to enrich landscape plantings and to nourish small fruit crops such as blueberries. Convenient, high quality, weed-free and reasonably priced, Clemson compost helps us improve our soil through the addition of nutrients and organic matter."
