Site Design Guidelines
Clemson University’s Design Guidelines establish a comprehensive framework to ensure that all campus projects reflect the Institution’s distinctive character and long-term vision. These Guidelines integrate core Design Principles, Campus Frameworks, Planning Standards and detailed Guidelines that serve as a roadmap for architects, landscape architects, engineers, and contractors. By aligning every project with Clemson’s aesthetic values: the importance of context, stewardship, and respect for historically significant spaces, the Guidelines promote consistency, quality, and an enduring campus identity. They are intended to guide decision-making from concept through construction, fostering environments that support academic excellence and enhance the Clemson experience.
The philosophy behind these guidelines is to provide design parameters in which creativity can flourish while maintaining overall planning and design objectives that reflect both broad philosophic principles and specific standards.
As the basis for evaluation by the University Planning and Design Office and University Facilities for proposed changes to the physical environment. As such, these guidelines will be instructive to architects, engineers, landscape architects, building committees and others involved in planning for change on the campus.
