Following the end of the Spring 2023 semester, construction will begin on the Advanced Materials Innovation Complex (AMIC). With an anticipated completion date of October 2025, AMIC will be the home of Materials Science and Engineering, with researchers and educators from MSE and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering collaborating in their new space. AMIC is designed to support nearly 250 research faculty and personnel, and the undergraduate labs will accommodate more than 12 000 students per week.

What is Materials Science and Engineering?
Upon its completion, AMIC will further strengthen Clemson University’s R1 research designation. Advanced materials research is a driving force across many technology fields.

Tree Management Plan
To build AMIC, some trees must be removed, but the site design minimizes impact. Seventeen existing trees will remain and be protected; twenty-seven will be harvested for use in the building. After construction, fifty-seven new trees will be planted—resulting in more trees than before.
